Neapolitan Basil Seed Packet (10 seeds)
Axe & Root Homestead is finally sharing seeds from our own growing spaces (with free shipping)! I've been seed-saving for years and using my own stock in my gardens. In 2024, I grew more crops than ever and excess seeds were saved to share with other growers. These seeds were grown in my permaculture gardens, totally naturally, with zero additives, pesticides, or herbicides. Small batches are hand-harvested, dried and packaged here in central New Jersey.
About Neapolitan Basil
A large-leaf, blistered basil variety that I've been growing in my garden for several years now! This is a true Neapolitan basil with a strong flavor. It has a prolonged blooming period compared to other basil types plus is very pest- and disease-resistant. Leaves measure roughly 6" at maturity.
Typical Germination: 7-21 days
Light: Full sun
Soil: Nutrient rich, well-draining soil, slightly acidic preferred
Sowing Depth: 1/4"
Start seeds 4-6 weeks before date of last frost
Height: 3 feet tall
Climate notes: Extremely cold sensitive. Be sure to transplant out after all danger of frost has passed. Basil plants are happiest at temperatures between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Permaculture Uses
- Edible leaves perfect for fresh eating, cooking, or pesto-making.
- Highly disease- and pest-resistant.
- As an heirloom crop, save your seeds for future use.
- When allowed to blossom you'll find many native pollinators are attracted to the blooms, such as bees and butterflies.
- The strong aroma of basil makes it a great companion plant for many nightshade crops including tomatoes. It is said to repel asparagus beetle, carrot fly, tomato hornworm, mosquitoes, flies, and whiteflies.
- Once established, Bolloso Napoletano Basil is relatively drought-tolerant.
- Deer- and rabbit-resistant.
Be sure to understand your own growing zone and microclimate before planting seeds. Research is advised on plant varieties, requirements, and specifications. After seeds arrive, refer back to this product listing for suggested sowing instructions. Instructions will not be shipped with seeds in an effort to save paper.
IMPORTANT:
Refunds will not be provided for ungerminated seeds. These seeds are used in my own personal garden and have been found to be viable. Please research seed sowing processes before purchasing as faulty sowing, user error, extreme weather conditions, or other factors resulting in poor germination rates are outside of our control. No exceptions.
