Axe & Root Homestead is finally sharing seeds from our own growing spaces (with free shipping)! I've been seed-saving for years and using my own stock in my gardens. In 2024, I grew more crops than ever and excess seeds were saved to share with other growers. These seeds were grown in my permaculture gardens, totally naturally, with zero additives, pesticides, or herbicides. Small batches are hand-harvested, dried and packaged here in central New Jersey.
About Touchon Carrots
Touchon is a Nantes carrot variety, said to have originated in France. It is considered the most flavorful and crunchiest fresh-eating Nantes carrot. Perfect for fresh snacking or delicious cooked. Carrots reach about 1" in diameter to roughly 6" long.

Light: Full sun
Soil: Nutrient rich, loose, well-draining soil
Sowing Depth: 1/4"
Days to Maturity: 65 days
Carrot size: Roughly 6" long
Start seeds as soon as soil can be worked. Direct sowing is recommended.
Seed saving note: Carrots set seed the second year. To save seeds, allow some carrots to overwinter into the next season. They will produce blossoms and seed pods.
Permaculture Uses
- Edible roots and greens for fresh eating, cooking, and canning.
- Touchon carrots are heirloom crops which means seeds can be harvested and saved from year to year.
- Carrots are excellent host crops for Swallowtail butterflies
- Carrots need loose soil to form full-sized roots. However, carrots can be planted as a cover crop to help loosen compacted soils.
- If allowed to overwinter and blossom the following year, many pollinators love carrot blossoms.
- Carrots are excellent companions for many vegetable crops, however, avoid planting near broccoli, cauliflower, and potatoes.
Be sure to understand your own growing zone and microclimate before planting seeds. Research is advised on plant varieties, requirements, and specifications. After seeds arrive, refer back to this product listing for suggested sowing instructions. Instructions will not be shipped with seeds in an effort to save paper.

Please research seed sowing processes before purchasing as faulty sowing, user error, extreme weather conditions, or other factors resulting in poor germination rates are outside of our control.
