Little Goldstar Rudbeckia Seed Packet (50 seeds)
Axe & Root Homestead is finally sharing seeds from our own growing spaces (with free shipping)! I've been seed-saving for years and using my own stock in my gardens. In 2024, I grew more crops than ever and excess seeds were saved to share with other growers. These seeds were grown in my permaculture gardens, totally naturally, with zero additives, pesticides, or herbicides. Small batches are hand-harvested, dried and packaged here in central New Jersey.
About Little Goldstar Rudbeckia
This is a smaller, shorter variety of Black Eyed Susans or Rudbeckia. They are a perennial hardy to many growing zones with a maximum height and spread of just one to two feet. They are deer resistant! These qualities make them great for borders and the edges of growing spaces.
Typical Germination: 10 days
Light: Full sun
Days to Maturity: Roughly 12-13 weeks to bloom
Soil: Tolerates many soil types as long as it's well draining, even clay
Sowing Depth: 1/8"
Height: 12-24" tall
Climate Notes: Start indoors 8-10 weeks before last date of frost. Or direct sow outdoors after danger of frost has passed.
Permaculture Uses
- Rudbeckia flowers are great for growing on hillsides and slopes. Their root systems anchor the soil, aiding in erosion prevention and soil stabilization.
- The dense growth habit of rudbeckia plantings makes them a great weed suppressor.
- Perennials have more dense, woodier plant tissues which absorb more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and sink it into the soil.
- Perennial plantings assist in soil health and structure with their extensive root systems and contributions to the mycorrhizae network.
- Rudbeckias are a favorite of many pollinators including bees and butterflies.
- These plants thrive in dry soils and can withstand infrequent watering.
- Deer-, rabbit-, and squirrel-resistant.
- The dense foliage of the leaves creates a perfect habitat for many predatory insects including assassin bugs.
Be sure to understand your own growing zone and microclimate before planting seeds. Research is advised on plant varieties, requirements, and specifications. After seeds arrive, refer back to this product listing for suggested sowing instructions. Instructions will not be shipped with seeds in an effort to save paper.
IMPORTANT:
Refunds will not be provided for ungerminated seeds. These seeds are used in my own personal garden and have been found to be viable. Please research seed sowing processes before purchasing as faulty sowing, user error, extreme weather conditions, or other factors resulting in poor germination rates are outside of our control. No exceptions.
