San Marzano Paste Tomato Seed Packet (10 seeds)
Axe & Root Homestead is finally sharing seeds from our own growing spaces (with free shipping)! I've been seed-saving for years and using my own stock in my gardens. In 2024, I grew more crops than ever and excess seeds were saved to share with other growers. These seeds were grown in my permaculture gardens, totally naturally, with zero additives, pesticides, or herbicides. Small batches are hand-harvested, dried and packaged here in central New Jersey.
About San Marzano Tomatoes
These seeds are second generation San Marzano tomato seeds. I grew true San Marzano paste tomato seeds purchased from Italy in my garden in 2023. Upon harvesting the fruit, I saved seeds which has now produced a second generation.
True San Marzano tomatoes grow just outside of Naples, Italy. Their gorgeous texture and flavor is credited to the soil they grow in, rich with volcanic ash from nearby Mount Etna. San Marzano's have loads of flesh and little juice which makes them perfect for making sauce and paste. Of course, as one of my favorites, I'm no stranger to eating them raw with fresh basil as well.
Typical Germination: 7-14 days at 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit
Light: Full sun
Soil: Nutrient rich, well-draining soil, slightly acidic preferred
Sowing Depth: 1/2"
Start seeds 4-6 weeks before date of last frost
Height: 6-8 feet tall+ (indeterminate plants grow until first frost)
Climate notes: Extremely cold sensitive. Be sure to transplant out after all danger of frost has passed. San Marzanos are happiest at temperatures between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Permaculture Uses
- Edible fruit for canning, sauce making, and fresh eating
- San Marzanos are heirloom crops which means seeds can be harvested and saved from year to year
Be sure to understand your own growing zone and microclimate before planting seeds. Research is advised on plant varieties, requirements, and specifications. After seeds arrive, refer back to this product listing for suggested sowing instructions. Instructions will not be shipped with seeds in an effort to save paper.
IMPORTANT:
Refunds will not be provided for ungerminated seeds. These seeds are used in my own personal garden and have been found to be viable. Please research seed sowing processes before purchasing as faulty sowing, user error, extreme weather conditions, or other factors resulting in poor germination rates are outside of our control. No exceptions.
