Axe & Root Homestead is finally sharing seeds from our own growing spaces (with free shipping)! I've been seed-saving for years and using my own stock in my gardens. In 2024, I grew more crops than ever and excess seeds were saved to share with other growers. These seeds were grown in my permaculture gardens, totally naturally, with zero additives, pesticides, or herbicides. Small batches are hand-harvested, dried and packaged here in central New Jersey.

Permaculture Uses
- Marigolds contain a compound called alpha-terthienyl in their roots. This chemical compound helps to inhibit the development of nematode eggs. If you struggle with nematode overload problems, marigolds can help.
- Marigolds attract slugs and snails… Hold on. That means they act as trap crops, drawing slugs and snails away from other crops.
- Planting marigolds in crop rotation or when interplanted poses benefits. So even if you plant marigolds the year or season before, their nematode disrupting powers will linger.
- These gorgeous flowers are loaded with pigment, making them a great contribution to a dye garden.
- Did you know marigolds are edible? The petals can be eaten.
- Butterflies, bumblebees, and other pollinators love marigold, increasing your crops’ exposure to much needed pollination.
- In the same family as Pot Marigolds or Calendula, marigold has medicinal properties helping with inflammation, wounds, and more.
- Marigolds are said to repel aphids. Plant them with leafy greens and tomatoes where aphids like to gather.
- On the aphid note, ladybugs, a natural predator to aphids, are heavily attracted to marigold. Plant them to increase your ladybug population.
